GUIDE · RENT OR BUY
Container Rental vs Buying
Rent for a defined project, buy for long-term use. Here's how to compare the two.
Side by side
| Rent | Buy | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Short or defined projects | Long-term or permanent use |
| You pay | For the period you need | Once: ex-yard price plus VAT and delivery |
| When you're done | We collect it | Keep it, or sell it back to us |
| Sizes | Most sizes | All sizes and types |
How to compare
Ask us for the rental rate and the purchase price together. We quote both alongside each other when you tell us your timeline. Multiply the rental rate by the months you need. If that total gets close to the purchase price, buying is likely better, especially as we buy back containers in fair condition and pay cash.
Rent if
- The container is needed for one project or a set period.
- You want it collected when you're finished.
Buy if
- You need storage for the long term.
- You want to modify it, or move it between sites.
Prices for buying are on our container cost guide, and details of renting are on the container rental page.
